Lisa was born in Toronto in 1967 and grew up in and around the GTA. She has had creative inclinations her whole life. As a visual arts major in an all-arts high school, she had an early foundation of artistic education. Studying graphic design for her post-secondary education, she worked in the design industry for over 15 years.
With a dedicated home studio steps from the kitchen, Lisa kept her creative cravings fed while raising her children. The studio space was shared with her family to encourage creativity in the home. She also shared her artistic and design skills through volunteering at her children’s school, and in their larger community.
Throughout the years she has found fulfilment in professional art classes and courses. In September 2023, she moved from her crowded home studio to a larger space a short drive away, where she misses her cats, but not the cat hair in her paint.
Currently, I am exploring perceived landscapes and emotional conditions using colour and biomorphic forms. The landscapes have many depictions: a sense of where I am, either physically or mentally, and how I am moving, or not, through this landscape. Additionally, inspiration comes from exploring a sense of connectiveness, energy, and placement. Compositionally, the work is sometimes influenced by my long-time habit of walking, and my attraction to the ancient, solid nature of stone.
